Which Droid Tycoon companion should I use?

Choose for the task you are doing now. Standard Workers improve crafting, Astromechs improve Pickaxe Level, and Battle droids improve health. Iconic droids have unique effects, so check each one separately.

Switch companions when your immediate task changes.

What a companion effect is

Droid Tycoon lets droids work for credits and stay by your side. The companion effect is separate from base income, so choose the effect for the task you are doing.

The three standard droid roles

Worker

Standard effect: Droid Crafting Speed.

Astromech

Standard effect: Pickaxe Level.

Battle

Standard effect: Max Health.

Rarity and variant both improve standard effects

The ranges below run from the Default effect to the Stellar effect, six variant steps up. Default through Galactic are read from the game; Stellar continues the same ladder one step further.

Legendary+0.8 to +2.0/sec+4 to +10+80 to +320
Mythic+1.0 to +2.2/sec+5 to +11+100 to +340

The Diamond effect for Common Battle droids is confirmed from the game: a Diamond ID10 reads +100 Max Health.

Iconic droids do not follow the standard role effect

A practical way to choose your companion

  1. Decide what you are doing next.
  2. Find the effect that applies.
  3. Compare the exact variant.
  4. Switch when the task changes.

Droidex is an independent fan-made resource and is not affiliated with Epic Games, Fortnite, Disney, or Lucasfilm.

The short version

Use an Astromech companion while working Scrap because its standard effect raises Pickaxe Level. Use a Worker while waiting on droids because its standard effect raises Droid Crafting Speed. Use a Battle droid when Max Health matters. Then choose the best rarity and variant you already own for that role.

Iconics are the exception. Their role does not determine their companion effect: BB-8 doubles collected Upgrade Chips, C-3PO doubles droid sell value, R2-D2 changes its Astromech mission reward, DJ R-3X doubles World Quest rewards, and the other Iconics have their own named effects. Read the exact effect instead of applying the standard shortcut.

A practical way to choose your companion

  1. Decide whether the next activity is crafting, Scrap, fighting, a mission, selling, or collecting from the Upgrade Chip Station.
  2. Choose the effect that directly changes that activity.
  3. For a standard droid, compare rarity and variant because both improve the normal role effect.
  4. For an Iconic, ignore the standard role shortcut and use its named effect.
  5. Switch companions when the task changes; the strongest crafting companion can be irrelevant away from the base.

After a Super Rebirth, a retained Iconic unlock lets that droid be repurchased for 1,000,000 credits. That repurchase rule does not turn every Iconic into the same companion or the same base-income choice.

Continue planning

Open the complete Droidex to compare every droid and variant, use the beginner guide for the first Rebirth, use the rarity guide to price variant upgrades, and use the base planner to compare placed income. Companion effect and placed production are different fields, so the best follower is not automatically the best droid to place.
