How do Pickaxe critical hits and Multi-Crit work?

A normal hit removes 1.2 times effective Pickaxe Level plus one, and an unupgraded critical removes 1.5 times normal. Multi-Crit Level 1 adds a second crit roll; every later level adds another roll and each roll has half the previous Crit Chance.

Enter the totals shown in game and your Nova Shop levels, then compare the next known-price upgrade by expected crafting time gained per 1,000 crystals.

Compare Astromech bonuses

The clean formula

Effective level = Pickaxe level + Astromech bonus

Normal seconds removed = 1.2 × (effective level + 1)

Base critical seconds removed = normal hit × 1.5

A baseline critical removes 50% extra time, which is 150% of the normal hit.

Timed Crafting Boost

Since v1.23.2, Crafting Boost doubles Pickaxe Level while active. Enter the level currently shown in game; the calculator does not apply timed boosts automatically.

Droidex Critical Upgrade Lab

Enter the Pickaxe Level, Astromech bonus, displayed Crit Chance, displayed Crit Amount, and Multi-Crit level from the current game. Companion and Rebirth bonuses are already part of the displayed totals, so the model does not need a separate Chopper mode.

The calculator shows the expected successful crits, expected seconds removed per swing, the chance of reaching every roll, and the next Critical Chance, Critical Amount, or Multi-Crit purchase ranked by expected gain per 1,000 Nova Crystals. It uses the shop levels only to price the next purchase.

Multi-Crit costs 400, 800, 1,200, and 1,600 Nova Crystals. v1.26 also fixed the X5 trigger display at Level 4.

What I actually tested

Fresh-account testing confirmed Level 0 removes 1.2 seconds, Level 1 removes 2.4 seconds, and Level 2 removes 3.6 seconds.

  • Level 20 displayed 25.19 seconds; the formula gives 25.2.
  • Level 20 with a +7 Astromech became effective Level 27 and removed 33.6 seconds.

What we know about critical hits

Droid Tycoon v1.22 added critical strikes. The game gives everyone a separate 1% baseline critical chance at zero purchased upgrades. Owner testing measured a base critical hit at 1.5x the normal hit: 50% extra, or 150% total.

The Nova Shop states that Critical Chance adds 5 percentage points per level and Critical Amount adds 10. Entering displayed totals also captures Chopper and later Rebirth rewards without guessing their contribution.

The Multi-Crit big takeaway

100% Crit Chance is no longer the point where Crit Chance stops being useful. Multi-Crit makes extra Crit Chance carry into later rolls.

How Multi-Crit works

Multi-Crit lets one pickaxe swing trigger more than one Critical Strike. Level 1 adds one roll after the first crit, Level 2 adds another, and every later roll has half the Crit Chance of the previous roll.

  1. Crit #1 at 200%: Guaranteed.
  2. Crit #2 at 100%: Guaranteed.
  3. Crit #3 at 50%.
  4. Crit #4 at 25%.

The chain ends when a roll fails or reaches the Multi-Crit level cap. Multi-Crit Level 3 allows four total crit rolls: the first crit plus three extra rolls.

Why go above 100% Crit Chance?

Without Multi-Crit, 100% makes every swing crit. With Multi-Crit, extra Crit Chance improves the additional rolls.

300%300% · Guaranteed150% · Guaranteed75%37.5%
400%400% · Guaranteed200% · Guaranteed100% · Guaranteed50%

With Multi-Crit Level 3, 800% Crit Chance guarantees all four available crit rolls. At 400%, the fourth roll is still a 50% chance.

Example: 200% Crit Chance + Multi-Crit Level 3

A normal hit removes 10 seconds. At 200% Crit Amount, each successful crit adds 20 seconds. Crit #1 at 200% and Crit #2 at 100% are guaranteed, Crit #3 has a 50% chance, and Crit #4 has a 25% chance if reached.

The swing removes 50 seconds when the third roll fails, 70 seconds when the third succeeds but the fourth fails, or 90 seconds when all four crit. Those outcomes average 62.5 seconds removed across many swings.

Crit Chance vs. Crit Amount

More Crit Chance means more chances to Multi-Crit. More Crit Amount means every successful crit removes more crafting time.

The simple version

You swing once. The game asks “Crit?” and then “Crit again?” Every time it asks again, the chance is cut in half. Multi-Crit Level 1 adds one extra question, up to four extra questions at Level 4.

v1.26 Multi Crit update

The complete four-level ladder costs 400, 800, 1,200, and 1,600 Nova Crystals. Level 4 permits five total crit rolls, and v1.26 fixed the missing X5 trigger display.

Core formulas

Effective level equals the Pickaxe Level currently shown in game plus the equipped Astromech bonus. Normal seconds removed equals 1.2 times effective level plus one. A baseline critical hit removes 1.5 times the normal amount, which is 50% extra or 150% total. The game also grants a separate 1% critical chance before purchased Critical Chance levels.

Enter the displayed Crit Chance and Crit Amount totals so companion, Nova Shop, and Rebirth bonuses are included without a separate Chopper mode. Multi-Crit Level 1 adds a second crit roll and every later level adds one more. The interactive comparison ranks the next known-price upgrade by expected seconds per swing and expected gain per 1,000 Nova Crystals.
